The Nature And Purposes Of Research

Primary research is when you yourself collect the research, this can be done by asking people in person: I will be doing interviews with people in my club about why K-pop is popular among youth in the UK and how they got into it.

Some example questions are:
1. Who is your bias group?
2. When did you get into K-pop?
3. Who was the first group / idol you listened to?
4. Why do you like K-pop?

Secondary research is when you get the research from a book or looking it up on the internet: I will use Google to find quotes from people who have said why they like K-pop
Example of those quotes from the internet:
· “Choreography is where K-pop artists are completely dominating. They perform routines that are so complicated and challenging. Their choreography is so insane that it needs hard work, practice, and skill, yet K-pop artists are known for performing them even live, proving that they are truly skilled and professional artists.” – Candymag
· “The fancams - as you can watch individual members performing live in high quality”

The advantages of primary research over secondary is that you can trust what you're writing is true however the advantages of secondary over primary is that you don't have to go around asking people different questions. I think that secondary research is more useful as you can just use the internet to get the information.

Quantitative research is data about numeric variables
Examples would be:
· As of 2015, there were over 35 million fans of Korean Pop Culture worldwide – this is a conservative estimate, but these are the “hard-core fans” of Hallyu who are actually registered to fanclubs and are very involved/active in the Hallyu community. Also as of December 2016 there are 60 million registered Hallyu fan club members in 109 countries –https://www.quora.com/How-many-Kpop-fans-are-there-in-the-world-divided-into-America-Europa-Asia-Africa-Australia-and-South-America} reference
· Roughly how many Kpop albums do you own?

Qualitative research is data about categorical variables

Examples would be:

“Who’s your bias group?” – BTS
“Who’s your ultimate bias?” – Jungkook from BTS
“Who was the first group/idol you listened to?” – Lee Taemin from SHINee
“When did you first get into Kpop” – The summer of 2015
“How did you get into Kpop?” – My brother googled music on YouTube and clicked on the song ‘Danger’ and also ‘Pretty Boy ft. Kai’ by Lee Taemin

The advantages of quantitative research over qualitative is that there is an actual number involved in the answer whereas qualitative is just a straight forward answers. However the advantages of qualitative over quantitative is that you don't need to find out the numbers involved in the answer.

Data gathering agencies
Some examples are Broadcasters’ Audience Research Board (BARB), Radio Joint Audience Research Ltd (RAJAR), IMDB and Boxofficemojo. Broadcasters’ Audience Research Board (BARB) is the organisation that complies audience measurement and television ratings in the United Kingdom.

Audience and Market research
Some examples of Audience and Market research are Audience data, audience profiling, demographics, geodemographics, consumer behaviour, consumer attitudes, audience awareness; product market, competition, competitor analysis, advertising placement and advertising effects.

What I did was people different questions about K-pop and I wrote down what their answers were,
There was a range of different questions for example there were questions about their bias group/idol and there were also questions about how they thought K-pop has gotten popular and if they are fed up with how popular some groups are getting and how some groups aren’t.

Production Research
Some examples of production research include content, viability, placement media, finance, costs, technological resources, personnel and locations.

What I did for the production research is I decided the topic which was K-Pop, and then I had to get the equipment (camera. tripod and microphone) and film people in my club at college, I also had to fill out paperwork, my evidence is that I have the paperwork on my blog.
